From the DJ booth to the mastering room
Ruslan started as a DJ. He won his first turntablism contests in Moscow at 14, and was later a resident at Pacha for several years.
As the producer SLATIN, his first track was signed by Spinnin' Records. Later releases came out on Ultra Records, Big Beat Records, Insomniac Records, Def Jam, Epic Records and Tchami's label CONFESSION. He made official remixes for Kanye West, Lenny Kravitz, Giorgio Moroder, Krewella, A-Trak, Laidback Luke, Sofi Tukker, Teyana Taylor and Redman. His official remix of Lenny Kravitz's “Low”, with Tommie Sunshine, reached number one on the Billboard Dance chart in 2019, and he won the award for the best dance music track of the year in Spain. He has played Tomorrowland and many other international festivals, as well as ADE in Amsterdam.
Today his work is mastering. From his studio in Madrid he masters more than 1,000 songs a year, from independent artists to multi-platinum releases in Latin music, urban, pop and electronic music. His specialty is stem mastering: the artist or mix engineer sends up to 8 stem groups instead of one stereo file, and the studio sums them through its own in-house chain, for more depth, clarity, better dynamics and more loudness potential than a stereo master.
He also teaches. His free Mixing & Mastering Tips go out by email every week and are archived at slatin.pro/tips, and his courses and one-to-one mentoring live on academy.slatin.pro.
