How to embed an image or logo in your audio's spectrum with WaterMark

Ever thought about embedding your logo or a secret image directly into your audio? Here’s the solution.

What is WaterMark?

WaterMark is a Max for Live audio effect that lets you embed a visual image into the frequency domain of your audio signal.

It works by injecting the image’s spectral data into a customizable frequency range at specified intervals, allowing for subtle visual identification or branding in your sound.

What you should know before using it

Before you go embedding your cat’s face into your bassline:

  • Depth controls how visible the watermark is.
  • Gamma and inversion settings let you tweak the contrast.
  • It handles latency compensation, so things stay tight.
  • There’s auto-reload for the image file, handy when you’re tweaking it.
  • The resolution goes up to 512x512, which is decently crisp for spectral art.

Want something lighter? There’s a free Lite version, but it’s trimmed down: no resizing, no gamma or invert, lower resolution (128x128), and some of the fancier controls are stripped. It’s still very usable for testing or simple embeds.

Watch the depth

Crank up the image depth and you’ll muddy your mix FAST.

If you’re looking to watermark your sound for ID, branding, or just flexing on nerdy levels, this is the move.
